Dear customers,
On the occasion of Filter's podcast Filterpodden, “102. Red light for red light therapy" which was released on April 19, 2024, we at Nutrilight wish to give a reply to what is covered in the episode. My name is Johanna Sucasas Wictorén, I am CEO at Nutrilight, and I have been working with health in various forms for the past 10 years. To begin with, I want to confirm - Red light therapy works. Red light therapy or photobiomodulation (Photobio Modulation/PBM) is a form of treatment known to affect many of the body's basic biological processes at the cellular level, from mitochondria to macrophages. The reason for the wide range of effects, i.e. that there are so many indication areas, is simply that red light therapy works at the cellular level (1) . As is well known, the cells are the building blocks of the entire body, and if the cells' efficiency is affected by light treatment, the outcome will also be broad.
We understand that red light therapy can appear to be a vast topic, and there are a plethora of studies that have been published. To make it easier for our customers to navigate the extensive research available, we have compiled a number of articles focusing on different indication areas in which red light therapy can have an effect, and we refer in these articles to relevant studies that we consider most interesting for each area. Our articles can be found here .
If you want to dig a little extra, there is also an open google sheet available, compiled by Vladimir Heiskanen . All published research on red light therapy is compiled here. In general, the majority of all studies conducted on red light therapy show positive results. In some cases no result is demonstrated, and in a few studies a negative result is demonstrated. However, I would like to emphasize that there is no study published so far that would demonstrate that it is dangerous to use Red Light Therapy. Against the background of what is known today, red and near infrared light are completely safe wavelengths.
We feel good from the sun and fresh air! Most people can probably sign on to that, because surely the endorphins flourish a little extra and the stress level drops noticeably when we turn our noses towards the sunlight on a warm spring day in May? And of course, the levels of inflammation and the disease picture drop during the summer months, compared to the winter months. I, who have preschool children, can attest that runny noses are significantly more common during the month of "Vabruari", than in June, for example. The sun and light are needed for us to feel good. If you have the opportunity to expose the skin to direct sunlight, it is of course just as good as red light therapy, even if the sun also contains other wavelengths such as UVA and UVB. Red light therapy/PBM contains the wavelengths (red light, and near infrared light/NIR) that are the most proven wavelengths in research, and those that have been shown to have the best health effect and penetration rate in the body (2) . With the research support available today, there is therefore no reason to use other wavelengths.
We know that all people are unique and react differently to different treatments. Therefore, we can never guarantee specific results, but we refer indication areas and effects to the available research, and let our conscious customers form their own opinion. No solution is universal. Nevertheless, we are so convinced of the quality of our products that we offer a satisfied customer guarantee. If you are not satisfied with the effect of your red light therapy treatment, we offer the option of returning the product.
We welcome and appreciate all conceivable questions and offer customer service via email, chat and phone, so that you as a curious customer can always feel confident that you are getting the information you need.
Best regards,
Johanna Sucasas Victorén,
CEO Nutrilight.
